CITY OF STARS
Romanced by the stars in the sky, she waltzes in cascading crepes and dreamy organzas. Glitzy, fun and light as a night spent busting boozy moves to the tunes from way back when she's going to dance the night away. The musky, sultry jasmine, the flower that blooms in at midnight, engulfs the structured pleated flowy silhouettes and separates finished with playful bugle beads and Swarovski stones shine like diamond on a balmy evening.
Unapologetically romantic taking inspiration from the nymphs and translated it into floor-sweeping dresses in light, pastel-toned tulle and organza. The palette - blush, midnight blue, rose, noir black, and a dusty interpretation of nude one might imagine.
The silhouettes gleam and shimmer with a promise; a wish made in between heavens.
She’s aware, lazy, narcissistic, an entitled selfie-lover, less patriotic and more globally minded, which enables them to contribute to the general welfare of society.
Her almirah, is reminiscent of the Austrian and French origins, in the, romantic tulles and sensual organzas, with delicate silk crepes over ruches and ruffles edged with stiff boning to form suggestive curves all finished with hand embroidery evoking the sense of Versailles with its gilding - Rococo style overall characterized by pastel colors, more revealing frocks, and lots of frills, ruffles, bows, and lace.
Imagine Mary Antoinette in 2018, rummaging passionately through her armoire to go to an evening soiree in Bombay ; this is what you’ll find there.
GARDEN OF EARTHLY DELIGHTS
Translating the painting of the same name by Hieronymus Bosch, Garden of Earthly Delights, winter-festive 2017-18 collection represents mankind gone mad for sin, wasting their chance at eternity in heaven.
Carefully hand-embroidered 3-D flowers in silk threadwork, bugle-beaded and rexin fauna and flora appliqued onto versions of silk – hand woven chanderi, chiffons and organic fabrics of bamboo and soya fiber with cutwork zardosi work adorn the silhouettes – often in shades of nude – beiges to pinks titillating the romantic shades of amber, garnet, periwinkle. The creatures featured range from the innocent birds, stags to the more sinister crows and bees ornate the sheer ensembles dressed with the late 70-early 80’s inspired one shouldered ruffles, denim jackets, graphic tees and trench coats.
LA DOLCE VITA
Varsha Wadhwa introduces her collection titled ‘La Dolce Vita’ which is inspired by Slim Aaron’s photography,
the overarching inspiration for the collection - LA DOLCE VITA - literally meaning the good life, begins with lounging by the pool, to getting dressed for evening soirees, progressing to 3-D floral finishing and pearls engulfed with gold threadwork and lines of bullion, edged with handcrafted drop pearl lace.
Exuberant yet with a cultured sense of cool glamour.
The capsule collection titled ‘Mezzanotte Muses’ which parallels a transitional mood of dressing as we accoutre ourselves at different times of the day, with great importance given to the meals – each having a character; a life of its own.
Inspired by her her sights as a young girl gasping at the exquisitely dressed women in the afternoons at the Ritz daintily demolishing petit fours, and the impossibly chic socialites swirling their wines before enjoying the ballet at Teatro alla Scalla, at midnight inspiration took its best form, reminiscing all these muses.
